Description / Helleborus Frostkiss® Glenda's Gloss®
Glenda's Gloss®, part of the Frostkiss® series, is a striking evergreen perennial that enhances garden landscapes year-round with its color and texture. Slightly taller than other Frostkiss varieties, Glenda's Gloss blooms early in the winter season, producing clusters of light greenish-white flowers accented with magenta edges. These lovely blooms, held aloft on sturdy deep-red stems, rise above a dense rosette of glossy, leathery leaves adorned with delicate cream variegation. Not only do these nectar-rich flowers brighten the garden, but they also offer essential nourishment for early bees and bring long-lasting beauty to cut flower arrangements.
This Helleborus hybrid, known commonly as hellebore or Lenten rose, grows with moderate to vigorous energy and has an upright, mounding habit that's both versatile and impactful in garden design. Glenda's Gloss shines as a stand-alone specimen in garden beds or containers but truly stands out when planted in groups or masses in borders. With a gentle spread through rhizomatous roots, Glenda's Gloss provides effective ground cover without becoming invasive, making it ideal for planting beneath high-branched deciduous trees or large shrubs where it can find shelter from winter winds.
Effortless to grow and low-maintenance, Glenda's Gloss hellebore adapts to a wide range of soils, including chalk, clay, and loam, though it performs best in dappled shade with rich, well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline. In mild summer regions, it will even thrive in full sun as long as the roots are kept cool. Drought tolerant once established and naturally resistant to deer and rabbits, Glenda's Gloss is an excellent choice for easy-care, year-round garden beauty.
