Alaska Planting Zones & Schedule

Alaska’s USDA growing zones range from Zone 1 to Zone 7, depending on where you are in the state. The farther north you go, the colder it gets, with interior and northern areas falling into Zones 1 to 4, where only the hardiest plants can survive.

Southern coastal areas like Juneau or Anchorage are milder, falling into Zones 5 to 7, where you can grow cold-tolerant vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and kale.

  • *Keep in mind that frost can occur before or after these dates. Watch your local weather to determine the best time to plant.

  • The growing season in Alaska is limited, lasting an average of 105 days but as few as 60 days in some areas. Refer to the planting schedules below to determine the best timing for your zone.
