Enjoy fresh tomatoes on the patio or deck with this little charmer. A favorite for 50 years now, Patio sets masses of small, round, perfectly sweet tomatoes over a 2-month season. You'll love its ultra-compact habit and generous yields. The perfect combination.
The University of Florida developed this variety in 1965. Bred just for the home garden, it delivers what we all want most: a compact plant habit without any loss of yields. You can expect up to 50 tomatoes on every plant, and these bright red, smooth-skinned fruits weigh between 3 and 4 ounces each. They are firm and crack-resistant, with good uniform coloring and terrific juicy-sweet taste.
Patio is a determinate variety, resistant to verticilium wilt, Fusarium wilt races 1 and 2, Alternaria alternata (crown wilt), and Stemphylium (gray leaf spot). You'll find it trouble free, even if you're new to tomato gardening.
Start the seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Plant outdoors when danger of frost is past and night temperatures consistently remain above 55 degrees Fahrenheit. If an unexpected late frost is forecasted, protect young plants with plastic sheeting or other cover. Set plants 2 to 2½ feet apart.
