    Bush Bean

Blue Lake Superior is an improved variety of blue lake bean. Blue Lake Superior has the same great flavor and texture that have made Blue Lake 274 a classic favorite for many years, but it has enhanced characteristics, such as higher yields of more uniform and refined pods, a better disease package, and a superior plant architecture with less flopping.

Blue Lake Superior is a bush bean, also called bunch beans, that sets very straight and plump dark green pods—about 5½ to 6 inches long—with tender white seeds.

A Phaseolus vulgaris variety, Blue Lake Superior is an herbaceous tender annual in the Legume family. A determinate variety, it grows as a low, compact, self-supporting bush that's suitable for containers and window boxes. A prolific plant, Blue Lake Superior produces a huge yield that holds well, ensuring a large, one-time crop. For a continual, season-long harvest, succession plant every two weeks.

Blue Lake Superior garden bean is easy to grow and adapts to almost any region. A shallow-rooted plant, it grows best in a sunny location with moist, fertile, organically rich, freely draining loams. Like all legumes, Blue Lake Superior is a nitrogen-fixer in the soil. After the final harvest is in, chop up the plant and work it back into the soil to improve the quality of your soil for the next growing season.
