Description / Dahlia 'Black Narcissus' Bulbs
'Black Narcissus' is a striking semi cactus dahlia with spiky-petaled, nearly black blooms that add bold color and unique texture to any garden. Growing up to 36 to 48 inches tall, this show-stopping perennial brings drama to your beds and borders while offering stunning contrast in mixed bouquets. Plus, the more you cut, the more blooms you'll geta flower lover's dream!
With an upright, clump-forming habit, 'Black Narcissus' is perfect for the back of borders or as a standout in containers. It thrives in Zones 8-11, bringing its rich, velvety blooms to life with ease. This tall variety may need staking or caging to support its impressive height.
Dahlias are simple to grow and love full sun and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. Improve heavy or sandy soils with organic materials like peat moss or bark for best results. Plant tubers 3 to 5 inches deep and 12 to 16 inches apart in spring, after the last frost. Water regularly, and pinch stems at 8 to 10 inches to encourage a bushier plant and more flowers. Fertilize early in the season and again later in summer and use mulch to keep soil moist and cool. Divide tubers in fall for more plants next year!
Want a head start? Pot up tubers indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost in 5- to 8-inch pots, and transplant them outside in spring after frost danger has passed.
NOTE: In colder zones (3-7), lift and store tubers indoors before frost in dry peat moss or vermiculite at 50°F. Or grow 'Black Narcissus' as an annualit's a showstopper no matter where you plant it!
