  • Description / Dahlia Giant Dinnerplate Mix Bulbs

Dahlia Giant Dinnerplate Mix is the perfect choice for gardeners who love a bit of mystery and lots of beauty. Growing 36 to 48 inches tall, these stunning dahlias produce giant, colorful blooms in unique random assortments, making every mix a delightful surprise. Blooming from midsummer through the first frost, these flowers brighten beds, borders, and bouquets alike. Cut as many as you'd like—these dahlias reward you with more blooms the more you harvest! With proper care, they'll thrive year after year, adding bold color to your outdoor spaces.

The Giant Dinnerplate Mix includes clump-forming tender perennials (Zones 9-11) with an upright habit. These dahlias are perfect for planting en masse in garden beds or as striking accents in borders or containers. Their tall height benefits from staking or caging for added support during the growing season.

Easy to grow, these dahlias love full sun to partial shade and nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. If your soil is heavy clay or very sandy, amend it with organic materials like peat moss or bark for better results. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist while they're actively growing. Pinch back stems at 8 to 10 inches tall to encourage bushier plants with more blooms. Fertilize in spring and late summer and add mulch to maintain moisture and keep the soil cool. Divide tubers in fall to keep them coming back year after year.

Plant tubers in spring after frost danger has passed, spacing them 12 to 36 inches apart and planting 3 inches deep. Start tubers indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost if you'd like an early start. Use small pots filled with potting mix, and transplant them outdoors when temperatures are warm.

NOTE: In Zones 3-7, lift and store tubers indoors before the first frost, keeping them in dry peat moss or vermiculite at 50°F. You can also enjoy these vibrant dahlias as annuals for a single-season showstopper in any zone.
