Description / Cotinus Velveteeny™
A colorful and compact dwarf smoke bush, Velveteeny™ has all the attributes of its parent Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple', a recipient of The Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit; but at half its size, it fits all that gorgeousness into almost any small space. In spring, with its hazy plumes of mauve flowers set against dark purple foliage, the bush assumes the aspect of billowing smoke. But in autumn, it becomes vibrantly colorful as the oval leaves turn rich red. The flowers attract butterflies and bees and make nice cut flowers and everlastings.
This is an easy-care deciduous shrub but pruning encourages bushy new growth and larger leaves. A full sun lover, it is drought tolerant once established. It can be grown in the landscape or in a container.
