Description / Caladium 'White Wonder' Bulbs
'White Wonder' is a beautiful strap-leaf caladium known for its vibrant foliage and graceful form. Its arrowhead-shaped leaves are a striking mix of white to grey-green, accented by light pink to white veins and bordered with mottled shades of green. With its mounding, upright habit, this fast-growing plant reaches 12 to 18 inches tall, making it a show-stopping addition to beds, borders, hanging baskets, and patio containers. Small, calla-like flowers may appear in summer, but they're often removed to keep the focus on the stunning foliage.
A Caladium bicolor variety, also called angel wings, 'White Wonder' thrives in warm, humid conditions and is perennial in Zones 10-11. In cooler climates, it's an excellent summer bulb or houseplant. Perfect for creating naturalistic displays, it excels in group plantings and adds drama as a focal point in mixed container gardens.
'White Wonder' is easy to care for and thrives in shady to dappled shade spots, though it tolerates more sun than other caladiums, especially in cooler regions. It prefers slightly acidic, nutrient-rich soil that drains well but retains moisture. Regular watering and monthly fertilization ensure vigorous growth. Deer resistant and long-lived, this plant will reward proper care with vibrant foliage year after year.
Plant tubers in spring after frost danger has passed, spacing them 6 to 8 inches apart and planting them 1
to 2 inches deep with the rounded side and "eyes" facing up. For a fuller plant, remove the main "eye" (shoot) before planting. Alternatively, start tubers indoors in pots or flats with damp peat moss or vermiculite and transplant them outdoors when the weather warms. In colder regions, dig up tubers in fall after the foliage dies back or before frost. Store them in a dry, cool location where temperatures stay above 45°F. Container plants can be overwintered indoors.
