Description / Camellia Just Chill™ Double Mauve
A Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs variety, Camellia Just Chill™ Double Mauve is an evergreen shrub offering year-round interest. Camellias are ranked as one of the very best flowering shrubs and bloom heavily for weeks when most flowering plants are going dormant. Camellia Just Chill sets elegant bowl-shaped vivid pink-mauve semidouble blooms from mid-fall into winter. The flowers brighten late-season gardens and make stunning indoor displays.
A cross of Camellia japonica with Camellia sasanqua, Just Chill Double Mauve is a woody broadleaved shrub with a slow growth rate and an open, upright habit of handsome glossy dark green foliage. It is a perfect specimen, but grouped or massed, it creates gorgeous shrub borders, informal hedges, and screens, and it's a great background structure for landscapes and mixed beds.
Easy-grow, easy-care shrubs, camellias grow best in full, dappled, or partly sunny locations with consistently moist, organically rich, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Just Chill Double Mauve is heat tolerant and disease and deer resistant. In cooler climates, plant in a sheltered location, preferably south facing, and protect roots with mulch.
Most camellias can grow into small trees reaching heights of 12 to 16 feet, but they can be pruned (after blooming) to maintain a height of 6 to 8 feet.
