Description / Colocasia 'Mojito' Elephant Ear Bulb
Colocasia 'Mojito' Elephant Ear is a tropical foliage plant that brings bold personality to your garden. Growing 36 inches tall and wide, it features 8- to 14-inch leaves borne on striking purple stems. Each leaf is a unique canvas of dark speckles and splotches, giving every plant a one-of-a-kind look. Occasionally, yellowish-white spathes may appear, but the dramatic foliage is the true star.
A fast-growing, frost-tender Colocasia esculenta variety, 'Mojito' thrives in Zones10-11 and is perfect for containers, pond edges, or rain gardens. Its upright, multi-stemmed habit makes it an excellent centerpiece for tropical-themed plantings. Use it as a bold solo statement or pair it with colorful flowers for a lush, layered effect.
Simple to care for, 'Mojito' thrives in sunny to partially shaded locations with consistently moist, fertile, loamy soil. In areas with intense summer heat, some afternoon shade helps keep the plant looking its best. Its deer-resistant nature makes it a reliable choice for gardens with wildlife activity.
Plant rhizomes in mid-spring once soil and air temperatures are consistently above 60°F. Space bulbs 3 to 4 feet apart and bury them 1 inch deep. In colder regions, lift the bulbs in fall and store them in a cool, dry area where temperatures remain above 45°F. Replant the following spring to enjoy another season of tropical beauty.
