Description / Echinacea 'Eccentric'
This Echinacea earns its name once the bloom season is underway and the reflexed purple petals begin to turn reddish orange . . . and acquire multiple layers . . . until they are finally a large pompon of radiant fiery tones!
Bred in England but quite happy to return to its native USA, Eccentric is super-hardy and disease resistant. Pollinators adore it, and if you leave the final blooms on the plant at season's end, songbirds will come and feast on the dried seeds in the big central cone in autumn!
Expect constant blooms all summer, making a striking appearance when new single purple flowers combine with mature red doubles on the same plant. You will love cutting the blooms for the vase, too -- the stems are strong and the flowers quite long-lasting.
Compact and ready to take off in your garden, this Coneflower appreciates moist soil as it becomes established, though it will become quite drought tolerant over time. It doesn't mind heat, humidity, and less-than-ideal settings. Welcome this native perennial back into its natural setting -- your sunny garden and best containers!
