A dynamic duo, peas are nitrogen fixers that put nitrogen back into the soil, and oats act as support stock for the peas to climb and, once decomposed, become organic matter, or "green manure," which increases nutrients in the soilreducing the need for fertilizersand improves nutrient delivery as well as moisture retention and drainage.
Plant in spring for the highest biomassmow, cut, or flatten before plants go to seed, and allow plant matter to decompose back into the ground. Plant in summer or fall to winter-kill following your main crops.
