The recent explosion in Crapemyrtle breeding has resulted in many new color combinations, plant habits, and disease resistances -- and none is more exciting than the First Editions® Magic™ series. Every variety in this series was selected for its ability to produce masses of blooms in rich, true colors on compact to intermediate sized shrubs.
The foliage also displays exciting new colors, as well as superb resistance to leaf spot and powdery mildew. Each Magic™ cultivar is unique, and together they demonstrate the sheer range and beauty of contemporary Crapemyrtles. Purple Magic™ sets itself apart with intensely colored blooms of violet-purple. The strongest color ever seen in the Crapemyrtle family, these crinkly blooms are showstoppers! Crinkly and very abundant, they are accompanied by bright red spring foliage, only gradually greening out in summer. Expect blooms in great numbers from midspring to late spring, and then again in early summer.
Compact (just 4 to 6 feet high and wide), dense, and colorful, this shrub is simply stunning. Give it full sun and excellent soil drainage, and let Purple Magic™ do the rest! Zones 6-9.
