Description / Echinacea Sombrero® Fiesta Orange Coneflower
Echinacea Sombrero® Fiesta Orange is an herbaceous perennial offering late spring through late summer interest. Free flowering and long blooming, this sturdy compact plant is covered in masses of bright orange single and semi-double blooms for months. The blooms are long lasting, and the bold color is non-fading. The flowers make excellent cuts for floral displays. In the garden, they attract butterflies and bees; and the dried end-of-season seed heads provide food for songbirds and add garden interest as well, especially when dusted in freshly fallen snow.
An Echinacea hybrid, commonly called coneflower, Fiesta Orange has an upright naturally well-branched habit. It is a lovely specimen in garden and makes a great "thriller" in a mixed container but is shown to best effect when grouped or massed in beds or borders. They are a natural for rock and alpine gardens as well as for xeriscapes.
Easy to grow, echinacea grows best in sunny locations with fertile well-draining soil. The plant is drought tolerant and deer resistant. Deadheading is not required but will promote even more blooms. Fiesta Orange has exceptional winter hardiness and excellent landscape performance.
A native plant, echinacea is indigenous to North America. Native plants are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. Naturally adapted to the climate and soil conditions of the region, they thrive without fertilizers or extra watering, once established. They also act as natural pest controls, reducing the need for pesticides in the garden. Landscaping with native plants promotes biodiversity and provides shelter and quality food for wildlife and pollinators, bringing gardens to life.
