Description / Passiflora caerulea
Get ready for masses of stunning blue blooms that bring every butterfly flocking to your yard. Passiflora caerulea, commonly called blue passionflower, is a twining vine that can grow up to 30 feet! They boast white and purple blue flowers in the summer that is surrounded by shiny foliage. The blooms give way to egg drop deep orange fruits from late summer through the fall. The best part? Passionflowers and butterflies are a package deal. If you grow this vine the pollinators will surely be close behind.
These vines are evergreen in tropical climates, but deciduous where winters are cool and prefers loose sandy or gravelly soils and does best when planted against a brick wall that retains heat during cold winter weather. Water deeply, but infrequently; passionflowers should be encouraged to reach deep into the earth for water. When motivated to do so, they are capable of developing amazing root systems to sustain them though droughts and freezes.
Add this exotic vine to your landscape today to turn your garden into your own personal oasis.
