Description / Citrus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree
Citrus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree, a semi-dwarf variety, offers both aesthetic appeal and a bountiful harvest. This very attractive thornless tree is adorned with lush, rounded green leaves and produces clusters of fragrant, eye-catching flowers throughout the growing season. These blooms give way to large, delectable kumquats, boasting juicy tart flesh and a thin, sweet, edible skin, perfect for fresh consumption or creating candied fruit slices.
A Fortunella obovate cultivar, also known as Changshou kumquat, the 'Fukushu' Kumquat is grafted onto a semi-dwarf rootstock, resulting in a compact, spreading form. This versatile tree serves as a stunning accent or specimen plant and can be trained as an espalier or cultivated in a container. In your garden, expect the 'Fukushu' Kumquat to reach heights of 10 to 15 feet at full maturity, though it's easily pruned to maintain your preferred size and shape. When grown in a container, the tree remains smaller but continues to flower and produce full-sized fruits.
The Citrus 'Fukushu' Kumquat Tree thrives in at least 8 hours of full sun daily and prefers deep, uniformly moist, well-drained soil. It tolerates a range of soil types, except for heavy, wet soils. To protect your tree, shield it from strong winds and freezing temperatures. If you're growing your kumquat in a container, bring it indoors at the first sign of frost and ensure it receives ample sunlight. This self-fertile tree requires no other varieties for pollination and will bear fruit independently.
Our citrus trees will be shipped at the ideal planting time for your specific growing zone. Please note that we do not ship citrus trees in December or January. Expect your plant to be 18-36" in height upon arrival.
