Description / Vitis Niagara White Grape
Vitis Niagara White Grape is a versatile deciduous grapevine that's both decorative and fruitful, perfect for the discerning gardener. This superior white variety blooms with petite greenish flowers from mid to late spring, later producing abundant clusters of greenish-white grapes, ready for harvest from late summer to early fall. With a lower acidity than most American varieties, these grapes impart a delightful aroma and offer a sweet, floral flavor. Enjoy them fresh, juice them, or use them to create homemade jams, jellies, wines, and champagnes.
The Vitis Niagara White Grape is a hardy and productive vine, second only to the Concord for cold hardiness. In the first year, allow the vine to grow freely, but by the second or third year, it should be pruned heavily and supported with posts or stakes, leaving only the strongest 2 or 3 buds. As the vine matures, maintain only the most robust sprout to form the main stem. Regular pruning and spraying will optimize fruit yield. This versatile vine can be trained on a wire trellis, espaliered against a wall, or woven around an arbor, pergola, or fence to create a stunning garden feature.
For the best results, plant your grapevines in a sunny location with deep, moderately moist, well-draining soil. However, they are adaptable to a variety of soil types and thrive particularly well in clay and loam soils that have been enriched with organic matter, provided they have good drainage. Choose a site that's protected from harsh winter winds. Shallow cultivation and mulching are beneficial. The vine is self-fertile and will produce fruit without the need for cross-pollination.
Grapes ship as 1-year-old plants.
