Description / Gladiolus Midnight Blossom Blend Bulbs
Midnight Blossom Blend combines two striking gladiolus varieties: Black Beauty and Bunga. Reaching towering heights of 36 to 60 inches, these dramatic blooms create a stunning summer display. Bunga's radiant orange flowers highlight the lighter interiors of Black Beauty's velvety deep maroon blooms, which are so dark they appear nearly black. With dense spikes of funnel-shaped flowers opening from the bottom up, this blend is perfect for summer bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.
Midnight Blossom Blend features Gladiolus spp. varieties, also known as gladiolus, glads, or sword lilies, that are tender perennials in Zones 7-10. Plant these gladiolus in clusters in beds, borders, or containers for the most vibrant display. They're ideal for cutting gardens or rock gardens and may require staking in windy areas to support their tall stems.
These gladiolus are easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade with nutrient-rich, well-draining soil. Amend sandy or clay-heavy soils with organic materials like bark or peat moss to improve moisture retention and structure. Fertilize lightly after planting and again in summer. Water thoroughly at planting and consistently during growth and bloom periods to keep roots hydrated. Mulch to maintain soil moisture and keep the soil cool.
Plant bulbs in a wind-protected spot after the last frost, spacing them 4 to 6 inches apart and planting them 4 to 6 inches deep. Stagger plantings every two weeks in spring for prolonged blooming. Once the blooms fade, allow the foliage to grow until it browns or frost threatens. Lift, clean, and store the corms in a cool, dry location (40-50°F) until the next growing season.
