Description / Schizachyrium Prairie Winds® 'Blue Paradise' Little Bluestem
Part of the Prairie Winds® series of Proven Winners®, Blue Paradise delights with its seasonal color changes, elegant habit, and absolute determination to thrive despite environmental stresses
In spring and summer, the stems of this little bluestem really are blue, having a silvery glint that catches the eye. In autumn, the foliage turns a rich shade of dark purple with tiny tan seedheadsvery attractive to birdsthat make great fresh and dried cuts for the vase. And in winter, it turns a lovely wheat color.
A self-sowing North American native, this easy-to-grow perennial grass thrives in heat, humidity, drought, poor soil, salty sea air, and just about any other stress you can imagine. It stands up brilliantly all season, its upright columnar habit, 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide, remaining as fresh in October as it was in April. And it's cold hardy and deer resistant.
Make Blue Paradise a feature of the foundation, street planting, driveway edging, sunny border, and/or meadow garden. You will be delighted by its native vigor and enduring, ever-changing beauty.
