Description / Masterpiece Blue with Eye Lobelia Seeds
Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner 2025; Fleuroselect Approved Novelty 2025
A breakthrough in lobelia breeding, Lobelia Masterpiece Blue with Eye is a compact plant that exhibits outstanding garden performance and flowers early in larger flowers with cutting-edge color. Lobelia Masterpiece Blue with Eye is a tender perennial (Zones 10-11), usually grown as an annual, offering spring through summer interest. The well-branched plant grows to a mature size of approximately 10 to 12 inches tall and 12 to 16 inches wide and blooms heavily in masses of striking blue flowers with a white eye that smother the long-flowering plant throughout the season. Borne in large, loose clusters, the flowers attract pollinators, including hummingbirds, butterflies, and many types of bees.
A Lobelia erinus, commonly called lobelia or annual lobelia, Masterpiece Blue with Eye has a compact, mounding habit that's perfect for patio pots and small-space garden beds and borders. It is shown to best effect grouped or massed as it forms a low cushy mat of intensely colored blooms. Masterpiece Blue with Eye is a great option for fields, rock gardens, and pollinator gardens.
Lobelias prefer locations with full sun to dappled shade and organically rich, evenly moist, well-draining soils. Most lobelias perform best in cool spring weather; however, Masterpiece Blue with Eye has excellent heat tolerance and impressive summer performance, which can also be aided with a bit of shade, consistent water, and a 2-inch layer of mulch around the base of plants.
Start lobelia seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before last frost and transplant seedlings to the garden after all threat of frost has passed.

This seed comes as a pellet. Pelleted seeds are small seeds that have been clay-coated to make them larger and more uniform in size and shape, making them easier to handle when planting.
