Sugar & Spice White Marigold is an annual offering spring through fall interest, blooming in large, carnation-type, white double flowers. Borne singly or in clusters on strong stems, the fragrant flowers attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, have a long vase life, and can be dried for everlasting arrangements.

Sugar & Spice White Marigold is a Tagetes erecta variety, also known as African marigold, Aztec marigold, American marigold, Mexican marigold, and big marigold. The plant has excellent branching and a uniform, compact, upright habit of aromatic, finely divided, pinnatifid foliage and a vigorous growth rate. Shown to best effect when massed or grouped, it is perfect for beds, borders, and containers. Best known for repelling insects in the garden, marigolds are often grown alongside perennials and vegetables, as they repel whiteflies and kill bad nematodes.

Sugar & Spice White Marigold prefers full sun and average, evenly moist, well-drained soils but is tolerant of clay and dry soils. It is also heat tolerant, but light afternoon shade may be appreciated in hot summer climates. Sugar & Spice White Marigold is low maintenance but pinching off the tops of established plants results in bushier plants with a heavier bloom, and deadheading regularly encourages and prolongs flowering. Shown to best effect when mass planted, Sugar & Spice White is perfect for beds, borders, and containers. Deer tend to leave them alone.

Direct sow marigold seed after the last frost in spring, as soon as the soil is warm, or start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date and transplant after all threat of frost has passed.

If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
