Description / Allium karataviense Bulbs
Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit
Pack of 7 BulbsPlant Allium karataviense bulbs in fall, and in late spring to early summer, they bloom in large, round flower heads dense with tiny, starry, dusty pink to purple florets. A native to Karatau Mountains in Kazakhstan, commonly called Turkistan onion, this compact perennial has beautiful broad gray-green leaves that have a slightly red edge and are sometimes mottled with purple. The stunning, long-lasting blooms have a mild fragrance and a stylish, modern appeal in the garden. They make chic floral displays, fresh and dried. Butterflies and bees adore them, but deer ignore them.
Allium karataviense bulbs are often grown as annuals, but grown in appropriate Zones, the bulbs multiply every year and are great for naturalizing. Bulbs are so easy to grow, they're virtually foolproof. Cold hardy, Allium karataviense grow almost anywhere but perform best in sunny to partially shady locations with fertile, well-draining soil, and are shown to best effect when grouped in mixed beds, borders, or containers.
