Description / Mangave Art & Sol® 'Catch a Wave'
The Mangave Art & Sol® 'Catch a Wave' is part of the Proven Winners®. 'Catch a Wave' is a distinctive succulent that brings bold texture and striking color to gardens and containers. Growing to a compact 8 to 10 inches in height and spreading up to 20 inches wide, this sculptural plant forms a rosette of wavy, silvery-blue leaves. In bright sunlight, its thick foliage takes on rich dark spots, adding depth and a unique artistic feel. Edges curl slightly, displaying soft, flexible teeth that give it a whimsical, wave-like formideal for adding architectural interest to garden beds, rock gardens, or mixed containers.
A second-generation hybrid of Manfreda and Agave, x Mangave 'Catch a Wave' captures the best of both, offering a mounded, upright growth habit. Hardy in warmer zones (9-11), this frost-tender succulent can also be grown as a houseplant or annual in cooler regions, overwintered indoors as needed. Once established, 'Catch a Wave' requires very little water, making it a smart choice for xeriscapes, low-water landscapes, and alpine gardens. It pairs well with succulents, tropicals, and drought-resistant plants like agastache, ajuga, dianthus, and sedum, letting gardeners create dynamic, low-maintenance landscapes.
For the best performance, plant 'Catch a Wave' in full sun with well-draining soil. Though it handles average moisture, it truly thrives in dry, nutrient-poor soils, making it a robust choice for low-care gardening. It's heat and drought tolerant, as well as deer resistant and rabbit resistant, providing a tough, resilient option that shines with minimal attention. As a "thriller" plant in mixed containers, it adds a captivating focal point to mixed arrangements. A one-time application of Organic Diehard™ Transplant Stress Relief can help establish strong roots, giving your mangave an excellent start.
Mangave 'Catch a Wave' has native parentage, indigenous to arid and semi-arid regions of Central and North America. Adapted to local climates, it thrives without fertilizers and little water, supporting local wildlife and encouraging biodiversity. Choosing 'Catch a Wave' lets gardeners enjoy a vibrant, easy-care succulent while contributing to an eco-friendly landscape.
