Description / Lemon Queen Perennial Sunflower
Plant it and watch it grow! And grow! And grow! 'Lemon Queen' Helianthus needs no care! A Midwest native, it produces lemon flowers of 2-to-3 inches from July through September, attracting butterflies as it grows up to 8 feet in height.
Excellent in the back of border gardens as an accent to shorter perennials, 'Lemon Queen' is also great in borders, massed as feature plants and as specimens and cutflowers. The long petals surround a slightly raised golden-brown center. Tall and upright, it forms a bushy clump of green leaves with the branching sprays of daisies. The bright yellow contrasts beautifully with the deep green foliage.
'Lemon Queen' can be pinched in June to restrict its height. Thriving in full sun, and an average to moist, clay soil, it is easily divided in spring.
