support, but it can also be allowed to scramble along the ground, if space allows. It's perfect for growing in vertical spaces in an
edible landscape. And its small flowers attract
bees and other pollinators to the garden.
Cantaloupe thrives under hot summer sun and performs best in loose, fertile, organically rich soil that has a slightly acid pH and drains freely. However, consistent, even moisture is required for best results. If temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F, protect plants with row covers. Mulch around plants to moderate soil temperature, maintain soil moisture, and control weeds.
