Description / Diamond Mine Hybrid Sweet Corn Seeds
Days to Maturity: 76
Diamond Mine is one of the new QuadSweets™, the latest generation of sweet corn hybrids, combining the characteristics of both the supersweet and the sugary enhanced varieties for a quadrangle of flavor. QuadSweets varieties are grower-friendly and offer exceptional eating quality, adding modern sweetness to good old-fashioned heirloom taste.
Diamond Mine corn produces a tall and sturdy plant, standing 74 inches high, with a nice 30-inch ear height. The 8-inch ears have a 1.8-inch diameter and 16 to 18 rows of glossy white kernels. The ears have excellent tip fill and husk protection.
Plant Diamond Mine corn in a location with full sun and fertile, freely draining soil. Isolate QuadSweets from other supersweet corn varieties, either by spacing (with a minimum of 660 feet between them), or by time (planting 2 to 3 weeks earlier or later).
Consider growing a Three Sisters plantingcorn, beans, and squash planted together all help each other grow and produce their best. The beans climb up the corn stalks and the squash vines shade the roots of the corn and the beans. Native Americans developed the Three Sisters many centuries ago, and it makes a charming and useful combination planting.
Corn is a warm-season crop, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost. Diamond Mine corn seeds can be sown directly into warm spring soil after the last frost date. Protect young plants with row covers if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulch corn plants to moderate soil temperature, maintain soil moisture, and control weeds.
