Description / Gold Standard Hybrid Sweet Corn Seeds
Days to Maturity: 76
Gold Standard corn is one of the latest varieties from the QuadSweets™ line, which represents the next generation of sweet corn hybrids. It brings together the best traits of supersweet and sugary enhanced varieties, resulting in a unique combination of flavors. Designed to be grower-friendly, the QuadSweets offer exceptional sweetness while preserving the classic heirloom taste that corn lovers cherish.
Tall and sturdy, Gold Standard corn plants grow to a height of 74 inches and have a 28-inch ear height. The 8-inch ears have a 1.8-inch diameter and 18 rows of yellow kernels.
Plant Gold Standard corn in an area with full sun and well-drained, nutrient-rich soil. To prevent cross-pollination, ensure that QuadSweets varieties are isolated from other supersweet corn, either by spacing them at least 660 feet apart or by staggering planting times (2 to 3 weeks earlier or later).
For a traditional and beneficial planting method, consider trying a Three Sisters arrangementplanting corn, beans, and squash together. The beans use the corn stalks for support, while the squash vines shade the roots of both plants. This ancient technique, developed by Native Americans, creates a productive and harmonious garden ecosystem.
As a warm-season crop, corn is vulnerable to cold and frost. Sow Gold Standard corn seeds directly into warm spring soil once the risk of frost has passed. If temperatures are forecasted to drop below 50°F, protect young plants with row covers. Applying mulch helps maintain soil moisture, regulate temperature, and suppress weeds.
