Washington Planting Zones & Schedule

Washington’s USDA growing zones range from Zone 4 to Zone 9, depending on where you are in the state. Most of the state ranges from Zone 9 along the western coast to Zone 6a in the east. These areas are suitable for cool-weather vegetables as well as warm-season crops.

Small areas of high elevation in northern Washington fall in Zones 4 or 5 where you can grow cold-hardy crops. Warm-season crops may thrive if started early indoors.

  • *Keep in mind that frost can occur before or after these dates. Watch your local weather to determine the best time to plant.
