Description / Austrian Crescent Fingerling Potato - 2 Pound Bag

Days to Maturity: 85 to 100 from direct sow

A mid season variety, Austrian Crescent Fingerling Potato is grown as a tuber vegetable. The plant sets long, thin, curved tubers with tan skin and light yellow flesh. These beautiful fingerling potatoes are quite large and have unequaled flavor and culinary qualities. Suitable for boiling, steaming, or roasting, they have a firm, waxy texture after cooking. Potatoes are a good source of vitamin C and also contain folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, thiamin, magnesium, and potassium.

Austrian Crescent Fingerling Potato, an herbaceous annual, is a member of the nightshade or solanaceous family (Solanaceae). The plant has an upright habit and produces high yields of up to 10-inch-long potatoes with good storability. The plant prefers full sun and fertile, cool, well-drained, loose soil. It has moderate scab resistance and is rabbit resistant.

A cool-season vegetable, one of the first to be planted in the garden, "seed" tubers can be direct sown into the garden in early spring before the last frost date. They need cold temperatures to germinate and grow but should be protected from frost with row covers.

Seed Potato Definition:
A tuber that has several eyes whose purpose is to be planted.
Genetically identical to the parent potato.

I compared prices with several companies, and Park offered two pounds for a better price. I had some five-gallon buckets and used the glue gun to melt holes in the bottoms of the buckets. I also had nursery 3-gallon pots. I planted the potatoes in them, and they sprouted right away and are doing fine. I am hoping for some delicious fingerling potatoes! I put plastic forks in the buckets to keep the squirrels out, and that worked fine.

I received my plants a couple of weeks ago. Got them planted right away. Excellent starter potatoes for here as our temperatures are in the 103 to 107 range lately in Northern California and they are doing great! All have come up in less than a week, after the second watering, they started coming up sticking their heads out. All are going strong and moving fast! Was impressed at the hardiness of the potatoes send to plant, had many shootings already starting to come out so got them in the ground immediately. Very happy with what I got so far. Cannot wait until they are ready to harvest and eat!
