Description / Flamingo Scotch Heather
Treat your spring garden to an injection of lively red with this charming Scotch Heather! Flamingo greets the new growing season with tiny leaves of brilliant crimson on dark stems, then turns green until its summer blooms erupt in soft lavender-pink!
Compact and very easy to grow in any sunny, dryish soil, Flamingo earns its name with that startling burst of spring color, which lasts for weeks and is inevitably the focal point of any garden (step aside, Forsythia!). Just a foot high, this shrub spreads nearly two feet wide, making it a nice choice for groundcover as well as the front of the sunny border or foundation.
The foliage turns green in mid- to late spring and remains that way through winter, but the flowers erupt in summer and stay colorful for weeks. Cut the stems and enjoy the blooms indoors, if you like, or dry them as everlastings. Beautiful and wild!
Flamingo is easy to grow in soil on the dryish side, and once established in your garden, will tolerate periods of drought. It doesn't mind punishing sun. Make Flamingo the star of your landscape!
