All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2017

Chef's Choice Yellow, the fourth addition to the Chef's Choice tomato series, produces luscious, rich yellow colored beefsteak type tomatoes. Everyone will enjoy Chef's Choice Yellow sweet, citrus-like flavor with just the right amount of acid and the perfect tomato texture. Like others in the Chef's Choice tomato series, the Yellow's giant 6- to 7-inch, 10-ounce fruit size, produces more than 30 tomatoes on its disease (Fusarium wilt, verticillium wilt, tomato mosiac virus, crack, and scab) resistant 5-foot indeterminate vines.

Sow seeds for transplant about 5 weeks before setting out in frost free garden setting. Transplant in a sunny location in 5-foot rows with a 15- to 18-inch spacing. Harvest the boat-shaped fruit when they reach a deep yellow color but are still slightly firm to the touch. Enjoy fresh or cooked in soups and sauces.

I bought these seeds on a whim, as they were on sale at the time. They all germinated, (as did the Big Beef Hybrid seeds I started in trays the same day), and although I had issues w/ all my tomatoes having rather spindly stems to start w/ & have struggled to keep them all standing w/ multiple cages, stakes & so forth, (which is likely due to weather/growing conditions, not the seeds themselves, as all of my tomatoes also took longer than usual to ripen this year than ever before, even the 4-pack of grape tomatoes I bought at a garden center, so something was definitely up.) Still, I've had great production with them - and they taste excellent. With the color, it was a bit tricky for me at first to know when they're properly ripe, so I've gone more on the feel than the color. And not to jinx anything, but I've had less cracking with these than some others so far. I'm definitely going to buy these again.

I purchased two variety of tomatoes, Chef's Choice Yellow and Better Boy. Chef's Choice germinated poorly (about 25%) and Better Boy is doing well. (I had a similar experience with two impatiens varieties, where one had good germination and the other had no germination). SO, Park Seed is batting about 50%, not great for pricey seeds. I may try another supplier next year.
