CowPots 3-inch Biodegradable - Pack of 10 (6-packs)

Description / CowPots 3-inch Biodegradable - Pack of 10 (6-packs)
The all-natural seedling pot.
This is our new favorite pot, hands down. The good folks at CowPots have found a way to create a win-win product that works great and does great things for our gardens and our planet. CowPots are post-methane manure planters that break down completely into the soil, enriching it with nitrogen and enabling plant roots to spread freely as they grow.
Made on a dairy farm in Connecticut, these pots begin as cow patties from the resident herd. Then the methane is extracted and used as fuel to power the farm buildings. What's left is separated into liquids (which go right onto the crops at the farm) and solids, which continue to compost until being molded into CowPots. By this time they are odor-free, and because they have not been mixed with other materials, they are free of weed seeds and other debris. Nitrogen-rich and porous enough to let roots grow through and air circulate, they are the perfect container medium for seeds and seedlings.
To use CowPots, simply fill with your choice of potting soil, then plant the seeds, root the cuttings, or transplant the seedlings. Place the CowPots in a tray as you would a peat pot, so that drainage can run off. Then give the seeds or plants heat and light (if starting indoors in a cool room) and wait to see shoots.
The only difference between CowPots and standard peat pots or plastic pots is that the manure tends to retain moisture, so don't overwater. And if you can space multiple 6-pack cells of CowPots an inch or so apart in the tray, rather than butting right up against each other, you will get better air circulation. But these are detailsthe CowPot behaves just like any other small pot until planting time.
When it's time to plant out, simply set the whole pot into the soil. You don't have to tear or crack the sides of the pot like many of us have learned to do with peat pots, to help the roots find their way out. And while peat pots can often take several seasons to break down, nitrogen-rich CowPots begin biodegrading immediately, and are completely integrated into the soil within 3 months. Best of all, there is no transplant shock associated with plants grown in CowPots and then transplanted into garden or container.
So: as your plants grow, CowPots are feeding the soil with nitrogen, a nutrient it craves. There is no mess, no transplant shock, no worry about whether the roots can really "grow through" those compressed peat walls. All you have is a fully integrated plant, better soil, and a good feeling about how you've used only a 100% renewable resource as a planter. Peat bogs are in finite supply, but cows are chewing cuds right now to make us more CowPots.
Please give these innovative containers a try this season. We can almost guarantee you will be so delighted with them, you'll be back for more in no time.
Each of the 6 cells within that flat is 2⅛-inches in diameter at the base, tapering outward to 3-inches in diameter at the top. You get 10 6-packs, or 60 pots in all.

WOW 2 people found this helpfulVERY clever idea!! Makes Very Good sense. Easy to use. Saves steps. Preserves the young seedlings. Wonder about smaller pots, like two inches wide, to handle tiny seeds like snapdragons. Love them!!
-
Good product 2 people found this helpfulI have used cow pots at different time in my gardening years. They hold up for the time I need them to while plants grow to transplant size but when in the ground or big container they let roots of the plant grow as the plant chooses.
-
Disappointed 2 people found this helpfulI was disappointed in these as I love the idea of recycling all things plants. Seedlings transplanted to them seem to be struggling while plants in plastic pots are going gangbusters. I grew up on a dairy farm and know how much manure is not utilized completely., so was disappointed these did not perform for me.

CowPots 1 people found this helpfulI prefer this biodegradable system to grow in. Strong enough & easy to tell watering needs

Cow-pots - the perfect plantable pot 1 people found this helpfulCow-pots are a terrific alternative to peat pots. They are just as convenient to use, but without the negative environmental implications of depleting the peat bogs in the northern boreal forests. Instead, they are a useful way of repurposing cow manure so it will fertilize your seedlings.

Cow-pots are awesome! 2 people found this helpfulCow-pots are a terrific product - a plantable pot with no environmental downside (unlike peat-pots which deplete a natural resource faster than it can regenerate). I have used them for years for starting vegetable and herb seedlings.

Won't use any other for starting seeds 2 people found this helpfulI can't say enough good things about CowPots. These beat Jiffy Pots by a country mile. They decompose nearly completely after transplanting, and I never have to crack open the pots and risk hassling the roots. Some don't take well to transplanting, as they don't like to have their roots disturbed, but with CowPots, that isn't a concern. Just pop them into the ground and off they go!

Nice 2 people found this helpfulI tried these pots and like them. They remained intact as long as needed, and were easy to cut apart at transplanting time. I wish they were less expensive, but they are a great product I will continue to buy.

Great Product 0 people found this helpfulThese Cow Pots are perfect to transplant the 40 plug per tray BioDome plugs into. Those plugs are long, but fit the depth of this size Cow Pot.

CowPots Rock! 1 people found this helpfulI've been using them for 3 years now. I start my seeds indoors early with a grow light. Flowers and veggies do great in CowPots. Paired with good quality soil, vigorous growth is achieved. Root growth is not "containerized" when it's time for planting as well. The larger pot size, allows me to grow them a little longer, than with smaller seed cells. Have had great success so far using CowPots. Bought extra to keep on hand. Park Seed has the best price around for the 10 pack of 3", 6 cell trays. Highly recommended.

Excellent Transplanting Product 0 people found this helpfulI purchased the #3 6pack Cow Pots last year to transplant tomato, pepper, and flower seedlings. The pots are the perfect size for plant development before the final transplant to the garden. They encourage solid root development, hold up well, keep batches of the same seeds together, and go directly into the soil to naturally decompose. I am buying more right now for the coming season. Terrific product hands down!

Perfect for transplanting seedlings. 0 people found this helpfulI love these pots. I was worried they’d stink like cow#@@*, but they have a neutral smell. The one thing I love the most is that the roots easily pierce through the sides of the pot material. Because of this, I don’t have to crumble or cut up the pots when transplanting. I know the roots can go where they want. They hold the moisture quite well, but I handle the watered six pack of seedlings carefully when moving about, as the cow pot material is somewhat flexible and I’m afraid they’ll tear (although, none have). Scissors cut easily into these six packs, assuming you only want to use one or two (or any number less than six) at a time. Just place the entire pot into larger pots when necessary to transplant, or sow directly into your garden beds. No peeling away of anything. Just stick it in the soil, whole. I also like the fact that, unlike peat, these pots are sustainable (cows are always busy making the raw materials).

Seedings grow & transplant great! 0 people found this helpfulI wanted something I could transplant seedlings in without disturbing them and these were perfect! Many times I've seen people say that roots have trouble growing through pots that are supposedly ok to put right in the ground. I didn't seem to have that problem. The plants' roots easily grew through the bottom and sides (often before I'd ever gotten them in the soil). Made it really nice to not have to disturb them, especially ones that supposedly don't like being transplanted. My only complaint, which is really just a heads up and probably unavoidable, is that the pots are VERY hard to remove from one another when stacked the way they are...probably because they are very dry. Takes a bit of patience to separate them from each other. Either way, I've come back to order more so I have them when I need them! Oh...you'll need a big drip tray to put them in as well, so don't forget that!

Good for the garden 1 people found this helpfulI like the idea of offering my seedlings a good start with these cow pots. I think a little more thought into design or packaging needs to be done, they stick together and are not all that sturdy to pull apart. Makes a bit of a mess.

Love these 0 people found this helpfulThese cow pots are great! I am starting a lot of seeds, and bottom-watering. They seem much sturdier than my comparable pear pots, which are already weakening. I like that they are made of a renewable resource. I will feel good about putting them in the garden when the time comes. My peppers, collards, strawberries, and kale are looking great!

First time purchase of cow pots 0 people found this helpfulI decided to try these cow pots this year and I'm very pleased with them. They are a bit hard to seperate but once done and seeds are planted, they work very well. I plan on buying them again.
