Bush Bean

An exciting gourmet bean that is a dramatic electric purple variety from France. Each long, slender pod is less than ⅓ inch in diameter, yet is packed with succulent texture and delectable flavor. Certain to be the most exciting thing on the plate, Velour deserves top billing in your garden.

These straight, slender pods reach 5 to 6 inches long, beautifully tapered and packed with nutritious seeds. The color is absolutely shocking—a rich royal purple so bright you expect it to glow. But the texture and flavor are even better: succulent, rich, and delicious.

Velour is a bush-habit plant, very heavy-bearing over a long season. The plant itself is compact, yet it sets plenty of scrumptious beans. As you might expect, picking the beans promptly is the guarantee of the freshest, most tender pods. Steam or sauté them lightly, or even freeze them for later use. They stand up well to storage.

Velour is absolutely stringless. The plant is resistant to CBM virus and halo blight, and grows vigorously from direct sowing in spring when the soil has warmed. Be sure to plow the plant under the soil once the harvest has finished; as a legume, it is a valuable source of nutrition for your soil. You simply can't go wrong with this exciting French Bean. Order early.

Very productive and very tender 1 people found this helpful

I grow all of our veggies in our basement under LED lights. I have grown our veggies for a number of years, but this was the first time I tried beans. The Velour beans were one of the 4 I tried and planted them in large bussing tubs, 8 plants per tub. These plants did not get as large as expected, but I probably didn't allow enough room for them. Even so, these plants were full of slender, purple beans. I steamed them for freezing and they turned green when steamed. These have become one of our favorite beans. They are very tender and so tasty after being thawed in the microwave. I will definitely be planting the Velour beans again, but will allow more space for them in deeper pots. By doing this, I hope to get more beans with less plants, and they will continue producing longer.

Fabulous !! These long slender stringless bean are pretty purple until you cook them. They turn green and are super delicious. Have been planting them for 5 years+ . I plant more of them than the bush green beans and will continue to do so.

Great bean 0 people found this helpful

I have not tasted these yet but they are a beautiful plant that produces rapidly and prolifically. I’m about to harvest beans that I planted 6 weeks or so ago. We have already had several nights of freezing temps. I just covered them with plastic and they came through it almost unscathed. My spring crop of blue lake beans produced ZERO. This was an experiment that has turned out well and I can’t wait to taste them and hopefully have beans to can for the winter. TN Zone 6.

dwarf Velour beans 0 people found this helpful

I was very disappointed that my beans only grew to about 4 inches long and 1/8 inch diameter. They produced well but never matured to the advertised 5-6 inch length or 1/2 inch diameter. I finally picked them after they began to show shades of green and found them to be stringy and tough.

Absolutely fantastic 0 people found this helpful

I just harvested this gorgeous dark purple, straight, skinny, tender, crunchy bean. The plant is very productive. I am so impressed that ran to order more seeds. The plant is not bushy, its slender and I didn’t think anything would come out of it. I harvested a shoe box full from 8 plants. I have maybe 35 plants, just need to find ways to preserve all these beans :)

Not impressed 0 people found this helpful

I Bought this to try something new, out of 24 seeds planted, 20 grew. It has been high 80's June and in the 90's most July, Aug w high humidity w sketchy rain. Plants look stunted and leaves dried up and fallen off. I watered every other day at a min. Still producing beans and added Espinoza garden fertilizer to try to help. Just now read about Natures Aid, will try this next year. The beans taste like a green bean should! I prefer my bluelake.

Impressed! 0 people found this helpful

I am totally loving these unique and tasty beans! They produce like crazy, are completely stringless and the taste is absolutely delicious! Even my husband who isn't the biggest green bean fan loves them! I have just been steaming them for about 10 minutes (its so cool to watch them turn green while cooking!) and adding a little butter, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder! That's all they need! They flavor of the bean itself is more than impressive! I can't wait to share some with friends and family!

Best Bean Ever 0 people found this helpful

These have every attribute you would want in a green bean. Tender with no string, prolific, flavorful, and an easy pick habit that will grow in adverse conditions. I plant only these.

This is the best bush bean I have ever planted! Heavy producer right up until the first frost. This bean just kept producing the more I picked. Great cooked, grilled, and awesome when canned. Last season I had problems with my blue lakes, but not with these beauties. I am hooked for life.

Great little purple beans. 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I loved these little purple beans. They are easy to grow and produce tons of beans. They are great raw and make a colorful addition to a vegetable platter. These beans turn a rich dark green when cooked, but retain their great rich flavor. The only problem I had is the deer love them as much as I do. This year I will plant enough for the deer too.
