Description / Evening Primrose Seeds

You may ask yourself why this is called an Evening Primrose, since it neither blooms in evening nor has primrose-colored flowers! Nonetheless, this unusual and exquisitely lovely variety is a native U.S. plant, hardy in most parts of the country and simply awash in soft pink blooms all summer long. A real joy for the garden, it flourishes in poor, dry soils receiving hot sun, and thrives despite drought!

Eager to reseed, it quickly establishes handsome, mounded colonies just 6 to 12 inches tall that return for years of beauty! The cup-shaped blooms are blush-pink at the petal tips, shading to pure white toward the tiny yellow center. 2 inches across, they jostle one another for position atop the low-growing plant, almost hiding the foliage. And the bloom is successive waves from earliest summer till the onset of cooler fall temperatures. A fine choice for the front of the border or naturalized in an open meadowland setting. And if you like this pink species, try mixing it with gleaming white Innocence! Direct-sow this seed in late summer, autumn, or spring, or begin indoors in earliest spring to transplant as soon as the weather warms up. Space the plants about 6 to 8 inches apart for a dense carpet of color. Enjoy! Zones 5-8. Pkt is 50 seeds.

This is Missouri primrose not evening primrose. This plant is invasive and hard to get rid of in flower beds. If you need ground cover for erosion this will work.

I was so excited at how this flower spread where I needed it to. I was thrilled to see it coming back this year. Unfortunately, it is covered with Brown Spot. I googled how to get rid of it, and it says hte best way is to buy cultivars that are resistant. I planted this in several beds, some that weren't even close to each other. They all have brown spot. It covers more than 50% of the plant, so it looks like I will be pulling it all up.

I have a big swath of evening primrose I bought one plant from a nursery it was on clearance and I planted the little root and here it is 5 years later and the plant is huge from reseeding , it really is a nice plant I do not bother it at all and it does great in the sun and in September the beautiful flowers are all over the plant flowers will keep coming until around December , it is a great plant that does not need anyone's help in serving and living to its fullest, sorry I didn't buy any from you but I have a huge one and that is all I need thanks

I planted a packet years ago. It blooms profusely twice each season. And it is invasive. I found I needed to pull it out or it would take over. However, it comes back and blooms again. It is a delight. One of my best small investments in seeds. I planted it in front of my home and when in bloom, passersby love it.

Grew them indoors. They easily grew but when I started training them outdoors mid spring, it lasted only up to 5 weeks. Planted remaining seeds on a pot using special seed germination soil mid May. None sprouted.

Not a single seed sprouted. I am a Master Gardener. I planted 8 different types of seeds for my Native Plant garden. This is the only seed packet that produced NO plants.
