Description / Fantasy Hybrid African Violet Seeds

If you love African Violets, the sheer variety of this mix will delight you. And if you've never tried this lovely houseplant before, Fantasy is the place to start. You'll get single, semidouble, and double blooms in all the bright jewel tones of the family, including bicolors. Blooms of deep purple, lilac, pink, rose, red, and white—all with a tiny buttery center—top these neat, rosette-shaped plants for a long-lasting display.

Blooming just 5 to 6 months from sowing, these 1½- to 2-inch blooms arise in clusters above handsome, heavily textured dark green foliage. A favorite for its profuse bloom, lovely foliage, and ease of culture, the African Violet is one of the joys of indoor growing.

Sow the tiny seeds on top of moist growing medium (such as potting soil), keep moist, and provide plenty of light. A good choice for a bathroom with a bright window (it loves the humidity and needs the light.)

So far, so good! 4 people found this helpful

Excellent germination rate. I used a 60 cell Park seed starter and had enough seeds for every cell and a few spare. First seedlings appeared in about seven days. My plants are still way, way too young to flower, so I don't know what I'll get from them, but the number of seeds and their germination rate exceeded my expectations. I'm very pleased.

I have 37 little seedlings that I just transplanted from the seed flat into little 3 oz pots. There is already a visible variety of leaf colors and shapes, with a few having pretty variegated leaves. I am looking forward to seeing the blooms when they come! Some germinated within days, others took a month under the same conditions.

Okay, I admit I'm new at this. That said, I thought it would be fun to grow my own violets from seeds. The seeds were so tiny as to be nearly invisible. When I opened the pkg I thought they'd forgotten to include the seeds! When I realized what I was dealing with, I did my best to sow them into the soil I'd prepared, but they were difficult to handle and I have no expectation of a good result. I'm pretty sure this is a failed experiment--so disappointing! Glad I didn't pay any more for them.

Wonderful variety and lovely quilted leaves. Every one a winner! I got over 30 plants from the 50 seed packet, far more than I have space for when mature. I have been gifting them! I started them in natural light in June and have since moved them to my grow light. They started blooming in late September.

I bought a pack of these to have some fun with. They were sown in early June and so far over 30 have germinated. I have grown violets for many years and am looking forward to the variety that I will see as these mature.

I got I wide variety of bloom colors, sizes, etc. My 2019 seeds are just now blooming, but I am thrilled. I bought another packet for 2020. I am growing under lights. I have grown many plants from seed but this was especially fun because I had no idea what they would look like.

Beginning 3 weeks in Germination 0 people found this helpful
I purchased 2 packs of 50 count seeds of Fantasy Hybrids African Violets. This is the beginning of the third week and already have 25% germination occurring. They are in a closed clear plastic container in regular potting mixture I use for my AV's. They are under LED grow lights, and NO bottom heating. I am satisfied so far with the results so early in the germination process!

Good results 0 people found this helpful
I planted one packet and had 10 germinate in three weeks, which was just two weeks ago. My first try with seeds, and want to compare to leaf propagation. Bonus if more appear.

Surprisingly robust and easy to grow 1 people found this helpful

I sowed one packet of these in June 2016, and I now have 11 resulting plants in my home and another 14 that I have given away. So my results were 25 plants from ~50 seeds. This is my first time growing african violets, and I live in a very dry environment. Half of them sprouted after 30 days (they were barely visible) and these guys have been pretty trouble-free ever since. I had them in 2.5" pots in a tray, so I could bottom water, and then transplanted to 5" pots when they were about a year old. That's when they really started blooming like crazy. They are large (to me), some almost 12" across. Everyone who's gotten one says they are easy to grow and doing well, so I definitely recommend sharing. This has been a really fun and surprisingly easy packet of seeds. Get some!

Good variation, minimal germination 0 people found this helpful

with other gesneriad seed mixes I have ended up with an overabundance of plants. Of this mix, I had about 5 germinate and 3 go on to bloom. However of the three I have blooming, one is a very pale ping with dark foliage, another has large dark blue star shaped flower, and the other is pink with purple splotches towards the end of the petals.

Used a heat mat and the Park grow domes. I planted three packets of the little darlings and got about a 25% success rate. Considering it was the first time of growing them from seed, I consider that great. They were fiddly but so much fun.
