Description / Fragaria 'Allstar' Strawberry

The USDA developed this improved, more compact version of the popular variety 'Guardian.' A spring-bearer, Fragaria 'Allstar' Strawberry has excellent resistance to fungus diseases, greatly improving its yield and reducing your labor in the garden. The large, juicy-sweet berries are great for eating fresh or for freezing.

Among the best fruit crops for the home gardener, strawberries ask only fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. They offer years of tasty fruit, renewing themselves from the runners they produce. Set plants 2½ feet apart. June-bearing varieties produce fruit in late spring to early summer—typically in June. Replace the crop about every 3 years to keep yields high. Fragaria 'Allstar' Strawberry is the type of strawberry to choose for big harvests over a short period—ideal for canning or freezing.

Fair amount of Berries in second year 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

The first season when the Allstar strawberries were planted they TOOK OFF, I was continually trying to keep the runners at bay, it was impossible to stop them all. This spring is their first fruiting season, and the berries are prolific and sweet. The only down side is I cannot seem to get the berries to grow larger than smallish-medium. The texture of the berries is also a tad strange, a little mushy once ripe but deliciously sweet. Over all, they're the most productive berries I've planted in a while.
