Description / Gum Drop Brown F1 Hybrid Cherry Tomato Seeds

Days to Maturity: 70 to 75

Gum Drop Brown, an F1 hybrid cherry tomato, is grown as a fruit vegetable. The plant sets small "perfect" flowers, followed by beautiful 1-inch, brown-striped fruits with a great sweet flavor. Tomatoes are considered a superfood for their nutrient rich content, having a high (top 20) Aggregate Nutrient Density Index score (ANDI), or micronutrient-per-calorie density. Tomatoes are a good source of vitamin C and provide vitamin A and potassium. They also contain carotenoid lycopene and beta-carotene as well as phenolic acids and flavonoids.

Grown as an annual, Gum Drop Brown F1 Hybrid Cherry Tomato, an herbaceous tender perennial, is a member of the nightshade family (Solanaceae), which contains plants that typically grow in temperate to tropical regions. A compact semi-determinant variety, it may require staking or caging for support. Blossoms and fruit continue to develop as the vine grows. So, it bears fruit over the course of a season, producing an incredible yield per plant.

Gum Drop Brown F1 Hybrid Cherry Tomato grows best in full sun and moist, humusy, deep, fertile loams. Self-pollinating, it will bear fruit without any pollen from other varieties.

A warm-season vegetable, sensitive to cold temperatures and frost, tomato seeds should be direct sown into warm spring soil after all danger of frost has passed. Seeds can also be started indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the first frost date and transplanted. Flowers begin to set fruit with night temperatures between 55 and 75°F. Protect plants with row covers if temperatures are expected to dip below 50°F. Mulching helps to moderate soil temperature and to maintain soil moisture.

If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.

This is my third attempt at a review of this tomato plant...but I'm so amazed I feel like I have to try again. I've just brought in another huge haul. This is the best tomato I have ever grown. It is a great big plant, has pulled over all my tomato cages and taken over a 4x10 raised bed and down the sides into the yard. This is just nuts. If you've become bored with your garden, this is the cure. I don't know when I've had so much fun with something I have planted. These tomatoes are not "brown" they turn bright red but are a little touch of "gold" or bronze at first. They ripen FAST. Ready by 4th of July for me, (in NC) About an inch across. My wife makes a great tomato pie and they do well for that (even as small as they are) and are very good tasting and slice in half nicely. Pretty inside, a tiny bit thick skinned, not like a grape tomato. Great in salads. I have given zip-loc bag fulls away. The horn worms can't keep up. Great addition to my garden from now on. Astounding.

This is a BIG plant and is really (for me) sort of beyond staking and support. I have it in a 4x10 raised bed and it has taken over the whole thing, collapsed all the cages and pulled them over. I have it controlled with bungie cords. This is nuts. I have never seen so many tomatoes. Tomatos Everywhere. About an inch around and I would not say they are "brown" more kind of browner than bright red.. Pretty inside. FAST RIPE. There are too many for the hornworms to keep up with. I don't know when I have had so much fun with a tomato plant. My wife makes tomato pie and they work great. Lots of seeds, but juicy, thicker skin. Great in salads.. (like for everone on the block). I think two plants must have sprouted very close to each other. Really, if you're a little garden fatigued or bored, buy this! NOW spreading into my yard on both sides!

BIG plant. Beautiful smaller sized tomatoes. One is a mouthful, what I think of as a snacker sized. Sometimes it's two bites. Not tiny, thumbelina sized. No problems...none. Ready for me before 4th of July in NC.

These are delicious , beautiful shiny skins with color of deep red with dark green shoulders. Seem to be more disease resistant compared other varieties . The only negative is some splitting with heavy rains
