Description / Lavandula Big Time Blue

Lavandula Big Time Blue puts other English lavenders to shame. It not only blooms much earlier than all of its relatives but also produces some of the largest flower wands—up to 4 inches long. And the plant is compact, so it fits almost anywhere.

Lavandula Big Time Blue, an herbaceous lavender, contains essential oils that can be used in cuisine, but is such a fine garden presence that it is also widely used as a low hedge and mass planting. The compact size makes it easy to grow in a container, so you can keep it near at hand for easy harvesting.

Like all lavenders, Lavandula 'Big Time Blue' needs very well-drained soil, and prefers to be kept on the dry side—water it while it is becoming established, and then let it dry out more. Very tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought, it is a fine performer in the U.S. Trim back in spring to encourage bushier growth; also deadhead after flowering. After that, you will find it quite self-sufficient, attracting bees and butterflies by the dozen, season after season. If your garden doesn't already have lavender, add it at once. And even if it does, it doesn't have one that compares to Lavandula Big Time Blue's early bloom time, compact habit, and gorgeous bloom wands

Love the Lavandula Big Time Blue 0 people found this helpful

This Lavandula Big Time Blue replaced a Blue Imp lavender that couldn't survive my zone 5b winters. I also have Hidecote lavender, but prefer the Big Time Blue as the colors seem richer and flower larger. The plant I received looked healthy, vigorous, and was blooming! It's been planted several weeks now and hasn't missed a beat. This type of lavender can be hard to find locally, so I'm really pleased to get a quality plant at a fair price from Park Seed.

Dead in weeks 0 people found this helpful
Unfortunately, this plant did not look healthy upon arrival and never recovered. Lavender has always been pretty hardy for me so I hoped for the best (maybe it's "not quite dead yet"). Gave it a good soak , then popped it into the ground. Sadly, it never came back to life. Definitely dead now, less than a few weeks after arrival. At least the other plants in the shipment are doing well.

Smells great but dies in 2 weeks 0 people found this helpful

I bought one of these in spring and another in the fall. Both looked wilted when received. They both had a nice lavender fragrance. I planted both immediately in a pot due to their wilted look. Both died within a couple weeks. I am not sure what the problem is but I do want a living lavender plant in my yard. Park Seed refunded the first plant. I have not asked for a refund for the second plant, but I will probably have to.

Received a rotten plant 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

My lavender plant came half rotten. When I removed it from the box, one-third of it fell out of the pot due to rotten root. The other one-third was dry and dead. I usually spent around five hundred dollar a year online for plants. This is my first try-out purchase with Park Seed. It will be my last too.

Misleading information 0 people found this helpful

I thought I was ordering 2 Quarts of Lavendula Big Blue seeds for a large plot, instead I received two Qt plants that are not even quart size! I clicked on the seed page and scrolled down to what I thought was a quart of SEED, not plants. Very, very misleading. Very unhappy with your catalog, i would like a refund.
