Description / Lavandula Big Time Blue
Lavandula Big Time Blue puts other English lavenders to shame. It not only blooms much earlier than all of its relatives but also produces some of the largest flower wandsup to 4 inches long. And the plant is compact, so it fits almost anywhere.
Lavandula Big Time Blue, an herbaceous lavender, contains essential oils that can be used in cuisine, but is such a fine garden presence that it is also widely used as a low hedge and mass planting. The compact size makes it easy to grow in a container, so you can keep it near at hand for easy harvesting.
Like all lavenders, Lavandula 'Big Time Blue' needs very well-drained soil, and prefers to be kept on the dry sidewater it while it is becoming established, and then let it dry out more. Very tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought, it is a fine performer in the U.S. Trim back in spring to encourage bushier growth; also deadhead after flowering. After that, you will find it quite self-sufficient, attracting bees and butterflies by the dozen, season after season. If your garden doesn't already have lavender, add it at once. And even if it does, it doesn't have one that compares to Lavandula Big Time Blue's early bloom time, compact habit, and gorgeous bloom wands
