Description / Mixed Colors Moss Verbena Seeds

Days to Maturity: 91

Typically grown as annuals, the tender perennials (Zones 9-10) in Moss Verbena, Mixed offer spring and summer interest. Extremely long blooming and heavy flowering, with the strongest bloom in spring, this mix includes a wide range of colors: pink, purple, red, rose, and white. Borne in terminal clusters (umbels) of tiny compound flowers, the bloom-packed heads attract butterflies, bumblebees, and hummingbirds.

Moss Verbena, Mixed varieties have a very low-growing, ground-hugging, spreading-trailing habit of fernlike, almost mossy, finely cut evergreen leaves. The plants make an excellent, low maintenance groundcover, especially good for erosion control. The verbena varieties in Moss Verbena, Mixed are shown to best effect when mass planted but also grow well in containers.

Moss verbena prefers full sun, but tolerates light shade, and grows best in moderate to dry soil. Widely naturalized throughout the southern United States, it has good heat and drought tolerance. Although prolonged dry periods may reduce bloom and growth rate, its preference for soils on the dry side makes it a good choice for rock gardens and xeriscapes.

Direct sow moss verbena seed after the last frost and as soon as the soil is warm in spring, or start seeds indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost and transplant after all threat of frost has passed.

If you plan to start your seeds indoors, be sure to check out our Bio Dome Seed Starter Kit. With the Bio Dome, you can control the temperature, light, and soil mix to ensure your seeds become strong for transplant.
