Description / Oranos Organic Pepper Seeds

Days to Maturity: 68

Oranos Organic Pepper is a sweet, crunchy, sugary pepper that always delivers big yields on vigorous plants, it is destined to be one of your all-time favorites. It's just easier, quicker, more generous, and more delicious than most others.

This sweet pepper looks a bit like a stretched-out, flattened-down mini bell pepper. The tips are blunt, and the seed cavity is nice and small. Most of the fruit is 2 to 3 inches long and about 1½ inches in diameter; enough for a few good bites, and just the right size to slice into a salad, dress a sandwich, or provide a quick vitamin C-rich snack.

Oranos Organic Pepper scores gives you a good crisp, crunchy bite. The yields are quite big, too—no stinting from Oranos Organic Pepper.

The secret to its success is the wide adaptability and vigor of this plant. It puts up with a big range of environmental conditions. It will succeed where others have failed; it knows how to cope.

These peppers store well after harvest, keeping their texture and flavor nicely. Of course they can also be pickled. But they are so flavorful, chances are you'll eat up the whole crop before you have a chance to get the water bath going to can them up.

Start seeds indoors 7 to 10 weeks before the last anticipated spring frost date. Wait until the spring soil has warmed before transplanting the seedlings, and make sure they have at least 2 sets of true leaves. Set the transplanted seedlings (or thin the direct sown seedlings) 2 feet apart in full sun, in rows about 3 feet apart. Fertilize when the blooms appear, and water well. Fruit can be picked green and allowed to ripen and turn to yellow in a sunny window, but is most colorful and nutritious if allowed to ripen on the plant.

Very poor germination and too expensive 2 people found this helpful

I love oranos peppers. They are the sweetest pepper I have ever seen. However Park charges too much for the seeds and especially the shipping. I bought two packs of 5 seeds at nearly a dollar a seed on a half price sale. Out of 10 seeds, one has germinated since March 9th until March 23rd. Even that plant is puny. I planted five other kinds of peppers in the same flat. I soaked the seeds for 12 hours before planting. I have a 90% germination rate on the other five kinds. The Thai hot peppers were 100%. germinated. All the other peppers germinated within a week. I use a heat mat and grow lights. I reported the bad seeds to Park and asked for replacements for the 9 that didn't germinate and they haven't even answered me. It will be too late to grow pepper plants for this years garden within a few days. Park Seeds has really disappointed me. I am 81 and have been gardening since I was a child. I have never bought seeds with almost no germination but one other time in all those years and that company went out of business.

Productive and delicious 1 people found this helpful

We grew Oranos from Park Seed seeds in cloth pots on the patio last year. The seeds are a little spendy but well worth it--I'm buying more this year. Two well-fertilized, healthy plants produced so many ripe peppers by late summer that we had enough to share with family and friends. Our family and friends all commented on how long-lasting and sweet they were. Very satisfying summer snack! I also love how the color adds visual appeal to my plate, whatever I'm eating them with.

No germination 1 people found this helpful

I was really looking forward to these sweet little peppers, but out of only 5 seeds, ZERO germinated! I used my biodome for this process which has always been great for growing seeds, so I don't know what happened.

I paid almost $10 for 5 seeds, and not a single one of them germinated. I used the biodome and other varieties around these did germinate as expected. Very disappointed in this one.

Out of only 5 seeds, I got zero germination from these, even though the other pepper types around them germinated perfectly. I was really looking forward to these.

Bad germination als 1 people found this helpful

I also only had one seedling sprout out of 6 seeds. I have over a dozen peppers growing that I started this year. Some were seeds from 2021 and I had better germination.

I started these expensive seeds indoors in March, in Arizona, zone 8. Transplanted outdoors and waited and waited. No blossoms until August and here it is November 6th and there are 3 peppers, still very green. All my other peppers did well. I would appreciate a refund.

Paid almost $9 for 5 seeds and only on seed germinated. Fingers crossed that one seedling makes it to full grown plant and produces.
