Description / Park Seed Organic Tricolor Romaine Blend Seeds

Days to Maturity: 45 from direct sow

A fabulous romaine blend from Park Seed. This delicious blend lets you grow exactly what you need for the perfect salad.

Park Seed Organic Tricolor Romaine Blend Includes:

Lettuce Vivan: a dark green romaine for bunching with baby leaves. Has a vigorous growth habit and is quick to produce. Delicious medium green leaves can be picked at a smaller size for a variety of leaves.

Lettuce Silvia: a beautiful red romaine for all year sowing. Is a dark foliage lettuce with smaller leaves and a sweet flavor. They have a looser head and soft yet crisp texture.

Lettuce Brun de Hiver: a bronze romaine with green colored stems and lover leaves. Has a unique foliage with mixed colors. These colors are lettuce, orange and a soft pink. The edges of the foliage change. This lettuce has large heads and is a great grower.

This collection is cool season and can tolerate a slight frost. Lettuce and greens are best started outdoors as soon as the soil can be worked in early spring or late summer (for a fall crop). For those living in zones 8 and warmer, sow your seeds in early fall for a winter harvest.

As long as the temperature stays below 80 degree Fahrenheit, you can keep making successive sowings—every two weeks is typical—to extend your harvest. As summer approaches, however, you will want to plant varieties that tolerate heat and resist bolting (producing flowers and seeds too soon).

If you choose to sow your seeds indoors, do so 4 weeks before planting out, at a temperature of 65 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Expect germination in 7 to 10 days.

Almost too pretty to eat. 2 people found this helpful

I grow most of our veggies and herbs under LED lights year around, and decided to try this Romaine lettuce. The leaves don't grow straight up as show in the picture, but grow in a rosette form. These seeds need light to germinate, so I sprinkled 25-30 seeds in a 4" pot of moist soil, and used a spray mister to keep the soil moist. 10 of the seeds germinated, and were moved to individual 3" pots after they got a couple sets of true leaves. Of the 10 plants that grew, I got 2 green, 1 red, and 7 green with red speckles. At this point, the plants are in 6" pots and have a diameter of about 9". I am now potting them up into 8" pots to give them more space. The plants are all so uniform in shape and pretty in colors, it's almost a shame to eat them. The leaves are not as crisp as the Romaine lettuce you get in the store, but they are good and add a lot of color to salads. I will definitely be growing this lettuce again.

Not the best germination, but good Romaine lettuce 1 people found this helpful

I grow most of our veggies and herbs in our basement garden year-round. Since Romaine lettuce is our favorite, I decided to try this color blend. I planted 25-30 seeds and 12 of the seeds germinated. This number of plants is fine since I am growing them indoors. I moved the seedlings to individual pots, and they are growing quickly. Fortunately, I got some of each of the color variations in the plants that are growing. The plants are still too small to harvest, but we are looking forward to using this lettuce in salads and on sandwiches. Our salads are primarily veggie green, but this lettuce will add a variation of color and texture.

great seed and harvest 1 people found this helpful

Growing in south central Florida and choose to give this variety a try. Glad I did and it will be my go to. About a 95% germination rate and most in less than 5 days. These heads have tolerated both a frost and low 80's. The maturity is a little longer than stated, but I believe it's due to the warmer than normal temps we've been having. Taste is great.
