Description / Paeonia Mixed Varieties Peony
Plant Paeonia Mixed Varieties Peony bulbs before the first frost in fall, and in spring, your garden will be adorned with a stunning array of perfect peony blooms. Each pack offers its own unique mix of interesting forms and gorgeous colors, making every garden planting a one-of-a-kind experience. These elegant flowers, rising 24 to 30 inches tall on strong, sturdy stems, are not only breathtaking in the garden but also make excellent cut flowers for spring bouquets and floral displays. The blooms attract pollinators such as butterflies and hummingbirds, adding life and movement to your garden, while the bushy mounds of lush, glossy green foliage provide a beautiful backdrop. As the season transitions to autumn, the foliage takes on purplish or golden hues, extending the visual appeal of your peony plants.
These Paeonia varieties, commonly known as peonies, are beloved bulbous perennials with a clumping habit that can live for decades, possibly even generations, making them a cherished addition to any garden. As classic cottage garden plants, peonies are truly spectacular when massed or grouped in borders or mixed beds. They also make a strong statement as specimen plants or in containers, where their lush blooms and foliage can be admired up close.
To ensure the best results, plant your mix of peony bulbs 12 to 14 inches apart and 1½ to 2 inches deep in a sunny to partially shaded spot with humus-rich, medium moist, free-draining soil. It's important to site the bulbs away from trees or shrubs, as peonies prefer not to compete for nutrients. Because peonies do not respond well to transplanting, choose your planting location carefully. As new growth appears, feed the plants with Espoma Organic® Bulb-tone® Bulb and Flower Food to support healthy development and abundant blooms. Once established, peonies are vigorous and low maintenance, thriving in USDA Zones 2-8. They favor cold winters, which are essential for bud formation, making them more challenging to grow in Zones 8 or higher. Peonies are also naturally deer and rabbit resistant, adding to their appeal as a low-maintenance garden favorite.
