Park's Picks Mix Aster Seeds
Description / Park's Picks Mix Aster Seeds
Park's Picks Mix is a superb field-grown aster mix that contains an array of colors. Asters are highly popular cool weather annuals, and these varieties are huge. The king-sized plants grow to 40 inches tall and bloom in large fully double flowers from midsummer into fall. Their bright crayon colors not only attract the eye but also all the pollinators in the neighborhood, including butterflies, hummingbirds, and beneficial insects. The brilliant blooms make excellent cut flowers for summer bouquets and mixed floral arrangements.
Callistephus chinensis varieties, commonly called China asters, Park's Picks Mix varieties have an upright habit. They're perfect for beds and borders and an absolute must-have for a cutting garden or pollinator garden.
China asters are among the easiest plants to grow from seed. They grow best in sunny locations with rich, consistently moist, well-draining soil. The shallow-rooted plants should be kept moist and never be allowed to dry out. Mulching around the base of plants helps retain moisture in the soil. China asters also require good air circulation. Removing faded blooms regularly encourages new blooms.
Sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost date for your area, or for early blooms, start seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost date in spring and transplant into the garden after the threat of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatize plants to outdoor conditions before transplanting. Succession planting every two weeks extends the season of blooms.
