Description / Sweet Pea Mix Pansy Seeds

Pansy Sweet Pea Mix contains short-lived evergreen perennials, typically grown as a cool weather annuals. Popular bedding plants, pansies bloom best in the cooler temperatures of spring and fall and bloom all winter in mild climates. Pansy Sweet Pea Mix creates a beautiful blend of ruffled blooms in shades of salmon, rose, violet and white. Borne singly on short, upright stems, the sweetly scented flowers make adorable kitchen table bouquets or lovely additions to floral displays. Left in the garden, the blooms attract bees and butterflies.

Sweet Pea Mix contains Viola wittrockiana varieties, commonly called pansies, that have a delicate look but a hardy, tough, and highly adaptable nature. They have a tidy, tightly branched, upright habit of medium to dark green leaves that?s shown to best effect when mass planted or grouped in beds and borders. But pansies are perfect for containers and hanging baskets.

Sweet Pea Mix pansies thrive in sunny to dappled shade locations with loose, rich, humusy, organic soil, having an acidic pH of 5.5 to 5.9; but they will grow in almost any moist, well-draining soil. Pansies tend to be cold tolerant and disease and pest resistant. Deadheading faded flowers promotes new blooms and prolongs bloom time.

In the North, start Sweet Pea Mix pansy seeds indoors in cool, bright conditions about 12 to 14 weeks prior to setting out. Water sparingly until plugs are fully rooted. The plants thrive in cool weather and tolerate light frost and cold night temperatures. Acclimatize seedlings outdoors 7 to 10 days prior to transplanting. In the South, plants can be grown for fall and winter flowering. Sow seed indoors in midsummer, 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting into the garden after the cooler weather arrives.
