Description / Profusion Apricot Zinnia Seeds

When we first grew Profusion Zinnias in our trial gardens here at Park several years ago, the "oohs" and "aahs" were deafening. And no wonder—Profusion Cherry (and its sunny sister, Orange) won the AAS Gold Medal Flower Award—the first flowers to receive this prestigious award in a decade. And then both Cherry and White walked off with Europe's Fleuroselect Gold as well. And now there are two exciting colors in the series that promise to live up to the high expectations of gardeners everywhere—this lovely Profusion Apricot Zinnia is one of them.

These bushy Profusion Apricot Zinnia plants, 14 to 18 inches high and 20 to 24 inches wide, are simply smothered nonstop all season with cheerful, 2-inch daisy-formed blooms. The petals are light coral, and they surround a bold, eye-catching central cone of rich terracotta—a very unusual combination for zinnia, and absolutely magnificent in a large planting. And large plantings are just what this landscaping series is designed for—unlike the cut flower or bedding varieties, Profusion is a dense, bushy, many-flowered little plant that covers ground AND fills the garden with color into the bargain.

Profusion Apricot Zinnia is highly tolerant of mildew and other foliage diseases, and laughs at heat, humidity, and drought. We are proud to give Profusion our highest recommendation for garden-worthiness.

Zinnias are one of the easiest annuals to grow, and attract butterflies to the garden. They are the perfect cut flower—the more you cut, the more you get. They thrive in the sun and heat of summer, and ask only for well-drained soil.

Space the Profusion Apricot Zinnia plants generously to prevent overcrowding. When cutting the blooms for the vase, trim off all the foliage; unlike the blooms, it does not age well. Direct sow or start ahead indoors.

Coloricious! 1 people found this helpful

When the plants first bloomed, the flowers looked exactly like the one in the picture. However, as the summer has progressed (it's now early August), the flowers have turned a deep reddish orange. Beautiful!

Apricot Profusion Zinnia Seeds 3 people found this helpful

    Rating

I've purchased profusion zinnias starts before but wanted to grow from seeds this year. They're a perfect size for border flowers.. The seeds were expensive, 25 seeds for $4.95. I chose white and apricot, They had a less than a 50% success rate for me. I'm a long time gardener and consider zinnias foolproof and this was very disappointing. I started them outside and a few weeks after our last frost. All the other seeds I started at the same time came up and are thriving.

Awesome 0 people found this helpful

These are wonderful here in the Dallas, TX area. Mine re-seeded themselves and came back true to type the following year. They look fine without dead-heading and are very drought tolerant. No disease Summer to Frost. You might want to buy a few packs of seed, since there isn't a lot in one pack. But it's a great value down the road if you want to fill up a space with annuals!

These grew quite short for me but so sweet - a nice range of peach and apricot colors, and tons of blooms.

These are an absolute delight 0 people found this helpful

Profusion zinnias are well named. They germinated well and have provided profuse mounds of long-lasting blooms. I love the other Profusion colors too, but these delicately-tinted apricots are my favorites. They also seem to be resistant to whatever leaf spot is affecting the taller zinnias nearby. I'll be buying more of the Profusion line!

Pretty plant but trouble with germination 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

I direct sowed some of these seeds and only about 25% of them germinated. There are so few seeds in the packet that I took a few of the remaining seeds and tried sowing them in pots indoors and out and only got 25% germination again. The plants that did grow are very pretty and covered in blooms. Park Seed was very kind when I called about the germination problem and they are sending me a fresh package of seeds to try again.
