All-America Selections (AAS) Winner 2014

Now you can grow delicious cukes on the patio, porch, or any other sunny spot. This All-America Selection is compact enough for containers, yet bears heavily. And the fruit is absolutely delicious.

Saladmore Bush Hybrid is ideal for warm climates, but is so well-adapted that you will find it easy to grow and productive just about anywhere. The cukes are dark green and straight, heavy for their size and absolutely bursting with flavor. Pick them small (3 inches or so) for pickling, or let them reach full size for slices and spears. The growin's easy.

Saladmore has a bushy rather than a vining habit (hence its name), reaching just 2 feet wide. Let it spill over the sides of pots, tubs, and even baskets, extending your vegetable garden far beyond the soil of the backyard. And despite its petite size, Saladmore is quite productive: the average plant will produce 10 to 12 cukes.

The secret of its great performance is its disease resistance: Saladmore stands up to anthracnose, cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, and scab. The mildew resistance means that these plants can withstand humid, rainy, wet climates, such as the Deep South and the Pacific Northwest. And the general disease resistance makes Saladmore a great choice for beginning gardeners.

Direct sow the seeds in a sunny spot in the garden or in containers after all danger of frost is past. For an earlier crop, you can also begin the seeds indoors, transplanting when the first true leaf appears. Cucumbers can be allowed to grow on the ground or loll over the sides of containers, but for longer, straighter fruit with better support, grow the plant in a cage or on a trellis, allowing 1 foot between plants in the garden, or one plant per container. Keep Saladmore well-watered, and pick the fruits promptly; they can become tough if left too long on the plant.

Vine, not bush! 0 people found this helpful

These cucumbers are a fine quality, but definitely not bush. They have taken over my small garden. The vines are easily eight to ten feet long. Very prolific, however!

This cucumber variety is easy to grow and is a very prolific producer. All seeds sprouted. Great to eat raw, to make pickles and relishes.

Great Choice! 0 people found this helpful

Excellent taste with outstanding disease resistance. Just be advised that these do have a vining habit even though they are marketed as a bush variety. I advise using a trellis. Mine are still producing high yields in late August.

False advertising 0 people found this helpful

I bought these seeds because the description said perfect for containers, and it is PETITE, only 24". Wrong! Mine is over 4 feet long and still growing way over the container and creeping along the deck. No fruit, but several flowers. Should be grown in the ground. Hope the fruit is good.

Taking over!!! 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

This is my first time container gardening. I thought these cucumbers were only supposed to be 2 maybe 3 feet. They are currently 5 feet or more and still growing (used 6 ft stakes and they have surpassed the stakes - give about a foot in the dirt) I planted the seeds outdoors in 8oz Styrofoam cups June 15th and potted on July 2nd. i have 3 cucumbers that seem to be growing, hopefully in another week i'll be able to pick them. I am a bit overwhelmed and unprepared for the growth. Not complaining but just be aware if you purchase you might get TAKEN OVER!! :)

Sent the wrong seeds 0 people found this helpful

    Rating

The seeds I received were labeled correctly, but the plant that grew does not match the description given here. My cucumber plant is decidedly vining, with vines reaching over 6 ft, and very few male flowers. I wouldn't be that unhappy about the mixup, but the female flowers are not getting pollinated, and are shriveling up. Very disappointed.
