Description / Summerpac Hybrid Squash Seeds

Days to Maturity: 47

If other squash refuse to set when the temperature climbs in your garden, Summerpac is the crookneck you've been looking for.

Smooth and wart-free, these 5- to 6-inch fruits set in huge numbers on nearly spineless bush-habit plants. Bright yellow and firm, they are delicious raw or cooked.

Summerpac is a reliably heavy bearer, right through the dog-days of August. It's the hot-climate favorite.

Summer squash ripens during the hot summer months and, thin-skinned, is best eaten fresh. Sow seeds 1 inch deep directly into the garden after the danger of frost is past. Thin the seedlings to 24 inches apart, or plant several seeds in hills 4 feet apart and then thin to 2 plants per hill. (For even earlier harvests, start seeds indoors).

How to grow squash plants 1 people found this helpful

When you plant your squash seed plant them on ground level. Add soil as they grow. Keep your plant with soil around it. The squash for enters from the bottom of the plant in the stalk and then from the nodule. Do not break your leaves let mother nature take its course. As you pick squash keep your stock and the nodules covered the nodules usually will Root down. I usually take a shovel and just shovel soil up around my plant and keep it covered as I pick my squash. The key to stop the borer. I grow squash and never have a borer in my stalks. I get a few in my squash. Looks like clear jelly. I those them out. If you get a borer just cut side stalk and kill borer then cover with soil. If you get one this way you are not covering enought. Hope this helps. I love the summerpac f 1 squash

Summerpac and green machine zucchini 0 people found this helpful
This is my first year purchasing the summerpac squash and the green machine zucchini. I planted my seeds on Good Friday this year and had my first harvest may 15th. I planted 10 plants each and was beginning to worry because I am not seeing any male flowers! However, the plants are full of felmales and fruits! I mean full! These plants were set into prefertilized rows. I have never seen so many fruits on one plant like this before! I will be purchasing every year! They definitely need 3 to 4 feet of space but wow, they are gorgeous!

Only 2 seeds out of 20 germinated. Used LED grow lights and heat mats. All other vegetable seeds planted at the same time using the same type of heat mats and lights are doing great.

We grew these last year for the first time and will grow them again this year. The plants got large with leaves the size of dinner plates. The squash arrived faster than other summer squash varieties we planted and there seemed to be 2-3 squash on these plants at all times. They taste as good or better than any other yellow squash we've grown. Pick them while they are 5-6" long for the smallest seeds. The plants held up pretty well for a few weeks before succumbing to a squash bug infestation. Would definitely recommend this variety.

I bought these seeds last year. I had bad luck with squash in 2010&2011. We had severe drought and 100 plus degrees. 2012 was the same but I harvested a lot of squash.
