Description / Thymus 'Coccineus' Red Creeping Thyme

There is a lot to love about Red Creeping Thyme. In early summer Red Creeping Thyme covers the floor of your garden in a sea of magenta or lavender-red. A low, mat-forming plant with fragrant foliage as well as beautiful blooms, it is easy and irresistible in any sunny setting.

Just a few inches high, the plant is densely covered with tiny, dark green, shiny leaves that are intensely aromatic when crushed—plant them between paving stones and enjoy their fragrance every time you pass by. You'll find yourself in wonderland with the thick carpet of fragrant vivid blooms carpeting your garden.

Evergreen in the South, semievergreen in the North. Plant 12 to 15 inches apart in full sun and well-drained soil. They will start blooming in late spring, reaching 12-18 inches wide and only a couple of inches tall.

Creeping thyme is a most valuable player in my garden. I have creeping ground cover thymes and sedums in all my flower beds as living mulch. This red creeping thyme is perfect for edging. Useful. Beautiful. Plants arrived healthy and in excellent condition.

Got my seeds, but no directions when to plant in Zone 7. I'll google some. The amount of sun minimum 6 hours per day is difficult owing to the tall trees & building shading part of the day. Too soon to tell how it'll play out.

Disappointing 11 people found this helpful

I bought 4 of these (the last they had in stock). When I received them, two were essentially dead and another was very weak. In the end I ended up with ONE live plant. Won't happen again!

Very disappointed. I ordered the 1 quart for a walkway. When I received the shipment - I opened the box and dirt fell out. Inside was a plastic cup (looked like a solo cup) with what looked like dried up tiny sprouted thyme. Not what I ordered.

Spectacular Failure 15 people found this helpful

If someone told me they would give me a million dollars to pack live plants worse than ParkSeed, I wouldn’t be able to do it however hard I tried. My 2 red creeping thymes were OUT of their pots, all of their soil spilled in the box, roots dried and plants dead. My 3rd thyme was buried under all that soil, dead. Do you know what they used to stop the soil from slipping? Thin elastic band over the pot. They tried to secure the pots with inner cardboard sections: those sections were firmly secure with the plants and soil completely loose in the box. Judging from the condition of the plants, they were half dead before packing or they stuffed them in the box, gave it a good shake then forgot to send the box for weeks. They may give me my money back but how can they pay for all the months I waited and for my disappointment?!

Live plants need Fed-Ex not USPS 10 people found this helpful

From post mark to delivery 8 days was way to long. Red creeping thyme died over 50% in the “Sure-Post” method. They were completely dried out with minimal green. The thyme spreads well from previous purchases however if you have a female dog and she urinates on it, death to the thyme. Reason for my reorder.

Keeps Dying On Me 12 people found this helpful

This is the only plant I've ordered online that I just can't seem to keep alive. It always arrives looking great, but just days after I've planted it, it dies. Just recently ordered 3 more. That was my last attempt. I'm giving up on this plant.

Thought I was getting seeds. Got one pitiful plant in a "quart container". No where in the description of this product does it state this is one pitiful plant.

Red thyme had no time! 16 people found this helpful

The six pack arrived tangled and in very poor shape. After teasing apart the mess there was only a *potential* for 3 plants surviving. When I called I was told any replacement would be in equally poor condition. So very disappointing. I would have walked by that pack at big box price. At the price I paid I expected strong healthy premium plants. Poorly done, Park.

Died w/in 24 hours of arrival 17 people found this helpful

I had great hopes; unfortunately, Parks has let me down again this season. Within 24 hours (or maybe less), this plant started turning brown and by next morning, the plant was dead. It was in perfect location, good soil, watered, sun. Nope, dead and brown. And Park's wouldn't replace as they were "sold out" I've yet to see the credit on my account. QUality control has been non-existent this year.
