Description / Vitis 'Concord' Grape

Item Form: Bare Root

Nearly 150 years ago, Ephraim Wales Bull of Concord, Massachusetts, introduced an exciting new grape from crosses made over a period of years. The public loved it, and before long a man named Welch had produced a delicious non-alcoholic juice to be used in church from Concord grapes. Over the years the strain was improved, but Vitis 'Concord' Grape remains the most popular grape in America. And once you grow this easy, attractive vine, you'll join the chorus of approval.

Vitis 'Concord' Grape is a seeded grape, with big blue globes "frosted" with white and large edible seeds. The skin removes easily, and the fruit is wonderfully fragrant, even from a distance. The flavor is sweet and soft—absolutely addictive.

Vitis 'Concord' Grape is a versatile grape, serving well for fresh eating, juicing, preserving, and wine-making. The vine produces very well in any sunny setting, and lives for decades. Disease-resistant and adaptable, it earns its reputation with each delicious harvest. Expect it to reach 10 to 20 feet long within a decade.

Arrived in perfect condition but... 0 people found this helpful

I am so bummed that these grapes appeared not to survive the winter. I had them planted in a dedicated large planter on my deck and thought since they are supposed to be ok in zone 6A they could winter outside but this year the plant doesn't appear to be alive. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though because we have had ridiculously cold wet spring weather so far for this area.

I bought 3 bare root plants. I soaked them for 48 hours, as directed and planted them, as directed. Nothing has grown. I scoured the internet and a few sites suggested I cover the sticks with soil, so after 2 weeks of no growth, I did that. Still, 2 weeks later, and nothing has grown. I was very much looking forward to having grapes in a few years, now I guess we won't be. I'm pretty disappointed.

This stick of a plant came wrapped nicely in damp paper so I knew it had not been dried out but I have to admit that these plants look pathetic when they come dormant and stripped of leaves! I had to continually remind myself that it was still alive after I planted and watered it- within about 10 days it's already blooming. Very pleased with this plant, unlike the grape I bought from Lowe's that died the moment I planted it. Very happy with the purchase, will buy from this site again.

I just got my grape plant yesterday having ordered merely a few days ago (thank you!) and it appears to be in very good shape with lots of nutrient sucking roots! I am growing it in a container on my deck with a bamboo stick to trellis- can't wait for some yummy grapes! Also- they pack it with a soggy paper bag that keeps the roots from drying out. Very nicely done :)

So what I was expecting when I ordered bare root plants was I figured to get 3 little scraggly sad looking 3 or 4 inch tall stems with a root attached but man these things came in the mail and the stems were a solid foot tall and the roots were folded in half because they were between 2 and 3 feet long with huge, health, well developed root balls, I planted them 2 days after I got them (I soaked them as suggested in a bucket of water for 2 days) after a few days a leaf popped up on one and I went out of town for 4 days, when I got back they had grown a foot each and had 30 to 40 leaves each. They look awesome so next step is just waiting on the grapes.

I usually don't write reviews until I received these healthy, beautiful & nice packaging bare root grapes. Its dormant right now but you can tell that these grapes will provide you lots of grapes. But of course depending on how you plant it, I did a lot of research. This company is very professional unlike any other companies. I was expecting an inch or two plant, surprisingly the roots & stem are big & long & has some buds. This is my first time to plant grapes, so hopefully I did right. I appreciate & can't thank Parkseed enough for the wonderful concord grape plants.
